Notice to all members
To all members, as you are aware, our club has been approved for restricted firearms and to date, the club rules are restricted “Rifles” only.
There have been requests from our members for the use of pistols at our club and in particular about “Cowboy Action Shooting” which requires the use of rifles, shotguns and pistols.
Cowboy action shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the old west: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles and old time shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “Old West” style. It is a timed sport in which shooters compete for prestige on a course of different shooting stages. Each scenario, as they are called, features an array of situations, many based on famous incidents or movie scenes, in which the shooters must test their mettle against steel targets. As the game of Cowboy Action Shooting has evolved, participants have adopted an attitude called “The Spirit of the Game”. Costumes are very important and you try your best to dress the part, use the appropriate equipment, and respect the traditions of the “Old West”.
For those of you who are not familiar with this type of shooting we will be posting more information on this topic on the club website and bulletin boards so check it out. You can see some pictures by clicking here.
The use of pistols at our club has always been a very controversial topic amongst our membership in the past and remains so today. Some members believe that the addition of this type of shooting would improve the growth our club by encompassing new areas of the shooting sports and attracting new members, while others believe it would spell the beginning of the end for our club.
In order to decide this controversial topic in a democratic manner, this notice has been posted in the club newsletter so that our membership can determine the outcome. To this end, we are asking all interested members to attend the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, December 8th, 2007 to debate this matter and cast your vote accordingly.
