With the LOWA Z-8S GTX C, LOWA has created a robust boot that is both very stable and lightweight. It is perfect for missions performed on challenging terrains and for marches with medium-heavy backpacks. The eight-inch (20-centimetre) high upper made of tough suede leather provides optimal support. At the same time, the durable PU material used in the sole that comes in various degrees of rigidity provides exceptional cushioning and stability. The waterproof lining with the GORE-TEX membrane creates an optimal foot climate even during sweat-generating activity. 100% made and sourced in Europe.
The Z-8S GTX C is CERTIFIED according to CE EN ISO 20347: 2012 with the following characteristics:Antistatic sole, waterproof upper, heat resistant, fuel resistant, and slip-resistant outsole.
Let’s start with the positive: These boots look great and seem of high quality. They are waterproof and keep my feet warm. The cons: the insole is really hard and has basically no cushioning at all. It could also do with more arch support. It felt fine in the store, but not so on longer hikes. This is the first hiking style boot I needed to add new inlays to. The biggest disadvantage (and disappointment), there is basically no grip on snowy surfaces, none at all. Even a sprinkle of snow suffices to take any grip, even on asphalt. Forget it on compacted snow, even when there is some texture left, there simply is no grip at all. I usually only wear spikes on actual ice, but with these boots I need to put spikes on as soon as there is a little white outside. Maybe my boots are a fluke, but I bought them to get me through those winter days when full snow boots are not needed, or when there is more slush than snow. Well, at least my pair isn’t safe for Canadian winter. Also a bummer, just bought them a few weeks ago at full price, they now are $100 bucks less. Even the new price is too high. Always liked Lowa, but these boots are a hit and a miss.
